About the studio

A small, slow studio building heirloom set pieces for the people we love.

P rop House began in the corner of a garage in 2021, when our first arch was sketched, sawn and painted for a sister’s Nikkah. We didn’t want a hotel-banquet stage; we wanted something that looked like home.

Five years on, we’re a studio of three. We build, paint and finish every piece by hand in our studio; we never white-label to other planners; and we accept one set per weekend so every gathering gets our full attention. If your celebration matters to you, it matters to us.

What we believe

about set pieces.

01

Quiet over loud

The set should slip into the room and let the people, the food and the calligraphy speak. Tonal cream, no glitter, nothing branded with our name.

02

Made by hand

Every arch is sawn, sanded and painted three times in our studio. Every calligraphy line is drawn by Hina, never printed.

03

One set, one Saturday

We accept a single set per weekend. No double-bookings, no fleet vans, no franchise. The arch you saw on Instagram is the arch we'll deliver.

Three of us. that’s it.

Aaliya Khan

Founder · Designer · Joiner

Cuts, paints and obsesses over silhouettes. Trained as an interior architect, swapped offices for a workshop in 2021. Wears the same denim apron, every install, since.

Hina Akhtar

Calligrapher · Stylist

Trained for nine years in classical Naskh and Diwani. Draws every calligraphy line on every arch — never digital, never printed.

Yusuf Ali

Producer · Installs

Runs the diary, drives the van, dresses the room. The voice on the phone at 6am on a Walima morning.

five years, in short.

2021
The first arch
Aaliya builds a peaked-arch backdrop in her father's garage for her sister Aminah's Nikkah. A cousin's friend asks to rent it. Then her cousin. Then a stranger from Instagram.
2022
A workshop in Whitechapel
We take our first dedicated studio space. The collection grows to 12 pieces. Hina joins as calligrapher.
2024
The Bone House
We retire all painted pieces and rebuild the entire collection in five tonal "houses". Yusuf joins to run logistics. We turn down two-thirds of bookings to keep our promise of one set per weekend.
2026
Five years on
140 pieces. 5 tonal houses. 48 weekends booked a year. Featured in Khush mag, The Asian Bride and Vogue UK Weddings. Still by appointment.

The frequently asked.

Where are you based, & how far do you travel?
Our studio is in England. We deliver and install across the UK for full-service hire, and ship smaller items — signs, keepsakes, calligraphy prints — to any UK address. Enquire with your location and we'll confirm delivery cost.
Do you take deposits?
Never to enquire. A 30% non-refundable deposit holds your date once you've accepted the quote. The balance is due 14 days before the event.
How early should I book?
Saturdays in May, June, July and September fill 9–12 months out. Weekday and off-season dates are usually available 2–3 months out. Eid mornings — we hold a separate Eid diary that opens in Ramadan.
Can I see the pieces in person?
Yes — studio visits are by appointment, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. We'll put the kettle on.
Do you do non-Muslim events?
Of course. The collection has been used for Hindu, Sikh, Christian and secular weddings, christenings, milestone birthdays and corporate evenings. The pieces are tonal — they belong anywhere.
